Social & Health Care College Herning aims to educate and train staff - in the area of social, health and child care - that equals future developments in society.

Social & Health Care College Herning provides food for thought every day for our students and aims to create a learning environment for those who support everyday life for others.

Social & Health Care College Herning is a college for people who want to work with people's everyday lives.

Our Philosophy:
- Everyday life is the foundation of a person’s life.
- Anyone who stays active in mind and body, evolves.
- A person in dialogue creates knowledge.
- Working close with other people requires ability of presence

Our Mission:
Social & Health Care College Herning has as its main task to create binding social learning communities, disseminate knowledge, and create a physical and organizational framework that supports students and trainees learning – with consideration to their preconditions.

The intention is to strengthen our students’ capacity to learn and to educate themselves and to be able to take part in qualifying and working practices within health and social care and the educational field.

Social and Health Care College Herning:
We educate adults and young adults for employment in the health care and pedagogical sector. When finished with their educational programme most of them primarily work with senior citizens, mentally and physically disabled and child-care. The college offers initial as well as further vocational training.
Other than the programmes mentioned below our college offers a basic course programme mainly for young people age 16 – 25, and a wide variety of tailor-made courses for institutions and municipalities. We also offer introductory adult training for students with reading and arithmetic difficulties.

Health Care Helper and Health Care Assistant:
Studying to become a health care helper takes 14 months and an additional 20 months to become a health care assistant. Our health care students are taught skills that enable them to assess care needs and requirements and to plan and carry out care assignments and activation tasks, including the stimulation of physical, intellectual and creative functions in relation to individuals or groups of people.

Pedagogical Assistant:
Our pedagogical assistant students enter an almost 2½ year programme that enables them to work in day care, youth clubs, school clubs or residential institutions.  These students have e.g. knowledge of physical and psychological development and supporting activities, health promotion and prevention, care related tasks, coordination, documentation and evaluation tasks in connection with their work.

Faculty Profile:
The faculty at Social & Health Care College, Herning consists of nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, social educators and teachers.
All members of the faculty have to acquire a specially organized pedagogical training course at diploma level for vocational college teachers within two years of their appointment.

Work placement:
During their education our students alternate between education and training at college and practical training in a work placement at e.g. hospitals, in home care, psychiatric wards, kindergartens or youth clubs – to connect what they are taught at college with the practical side of their future profession.

International mobility:
During their practical training - our students are offered to spend time working abroad as part of our mobility activities; to study how other countries work with their chosen field of interest, to broaden their communicative and professional qualifications in general and to develop understanding of and strong international bonds with people in other countries.
